On occasion, The Calgary Drop In Centre hires general maintenance workers to complement our team of custodial staff. We take great care in hiring the right people, so that we can continue to provide a clean, safe, and considerate workplace for staff, and the valued clients we are here to serve. Our Custodial staff are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the smooth operation of our buildings, including the shelters, housing and apartment complexes, offices, training facilities, and warehouses. We prioritize the need for clean, sanitary work and living spaces, and thus hire people who share our interest in doing detailed, thorough work. We clean floor to ceiling on a daily basis, and enjoy employees who prefer to keep moving within a very busy work environment. Your days will fly by, and you'll be appreciated with a good wage, benefits, and the support of strong management and team members. In addition to 3-5 years custodial experience, applicants should have a willingness to learn, be proactive in their effort to maintain equipment and supplies, have a tireless work ethic, and a proven compassion for people. Other Duties and Requirements: * General janitorial functions * Polishing, stripping, and waxing floors * Carpet cleaning * Washing, washing, more washing * Tracking of cleaning supplies * Reporting on items that may require upcoming maintenance * Working within a close-knit team environment * Strong communication skills * Outstanding work ethic Interested applicants are encouraged to apply here directly. Funding
The primary source of funding for The DI is the Government of Alberta, Ministry of Housing, which currently pays a per diem rate for each individual housed every night.
History
48 years of excellence in serving our communities The DI has been a familiar face in the homeless sector since 1961. The DI was originally operated through a joint initiative of the Roman Catholic Diocese and the Calgary Interfaith Community Action Committee in 1961.
The DI Today
Today, The DI has the capacity to shelter 1,250 individuals a night. Due to the diverse needs of our population, we offer four levels of accommodation. In the fall of 2008 C110 was sold to the Inn From the Cold Society.
