The Calgary Drop In & Rehab Centre hires caring people to join our non profit agency to help care for the homeless people we serve, to strengthen our relationships within the community, and to help foster our goal of being an Employer of Choice. The social services we provide to over 1100 people in need each day work to preserve the dignity and respect of the people in our community. DRIVER WANTED We are curently seeking a Delivery and Pick Up Driver to responsibly and reliably halp to manage the busy process of receiving and dropping off deliveries within our community. We accept donations of all kinds from generous Calgarians who want to help others by giving gently used items of every sort to our Donations program, so that people in need will have an opportunity to use those items. Qualifications The person we hire will be seeking an opportunity to welcome new relationships, build upon old ones, and be an ambassador of warmth and thanks on behalf of The DI and its clients. The relationships we create will be based on respect, appreciation, and partnership with all people in our community. This is not just a job, its a way of thinking, acting, and giving. In addition to your inviting personality, you must have a valid and clean Class 5 license (we operate cargo vans, cube vans, 1-ton, and 3-ton vehicles). You must also be physically fit, your references will tell us you work VERY hard, you like to be busy, and you're reliable - every day. You will be part of a two-man team responsible for liasing with donors, volunteers, and for loading and unloading heavy items. This job is physically demanding, yet very rewarding for the right person. We will expect you to be on time, be hard working, and be polite and respectful of clients, donors, and self. To compassionately be 'the voice' for the marginalized, disenfranchised and homeless population of our city. Regardless of the circumstances leading to their current situation, to be of service, without judgment, and to fairly and appropriately provide programs and support that assists each individual in their efforts to move forward with their lives.
Ethics
Everyone associated with the organization will use their best judgment in all matters affecting The DI. They will base their relationships on honesty and integrity and will not misuse their position for personal gain.
Funding
The primary source of funding for The DI is the Government of Alberta, Ministry of Housing, which currently pays a per diem rate for each individual housed every night.
History
48 years of excellence in serving our communities The DI has been a familiar face in the homeless sector since 1961. The DI was originally operated through a joint initiative of the Roman Catholic Diocese and the Calgary Interfaith Community Action Committee in 1961.
The DI Today
Today, The DI has the capacity to shelter 1,250 individuals a night. Due to the diverse needs of our population, we offer four levels of accommodation. In the fall of 2008 C110 was sold to the Inn From the Cold Society.
